Lee Energy Gator Case Study 20th November 2018

In November 2018 R&D Solutions based in Perth Western Australia was requested to mobilise a Lee Energy Systems Gator Perforator. This was carried out at short notice and after normal pre-run checks was picked up and ran in hole.

Technology Summary

The Gator Perforator is a hydro-mechanical casing cutter that uses hydraulic force to mechanically punch holes in casing. The tool can be activated multiple times in one run and has the ability to perform in conjunction with other tools allowing versatility in many applications.

Run 1

The first cut was carried out at a depth of 360mkb, the success of which was witnessed at 2,300 psi. Pumping continued to monitor for constant pressure and once levelled any residual gas was bled off and the tool pulled out of the well.

Run 2

The second cut at 247mkb saw the pressure drop at 2,600 psi indicating another successful cut. Pressure was bled off and the annulus monitored for returns.

Run 3

Cut three whilst at a different depth of 167mkb was a carbon copy successful operation. It was observed that on retrieval the tools were in perfect condition with little wear on the cutting blades.

Result

Lee Energy systems have again demonstrated their non-pyrotechnic capabilities in challenging conditions.

Conclusion

Pulling together leading-edge technology and local resources, Lee Energy and R&D Solutions working as a team ensured the equipment and services performed as intended for a major operator dealing with a challenging task. R&D Solutions thank Dallas Seutter and Stuart Butcher for their support.
